Breakfast Club

After School Care

Breakfast Club

Our Aims
At Breakfast Club we aim to provide families with a childcare solution on the school site from 7.55am-the start of school. The children are provided with a healthy breakfast with a wide menu choice and are encouraged to help with preparation and clearing up. After this they participate in a range of quiet games and creative activities, to ensure a calm and positive start to their day.

How it works
Two members of school staff run breakfast club every morning during the school term. Parents or carers must bring children into the school hall to be signed in. The staff will escort all children to their classrooms at the end of each session.

Booking Procedure
Parents/carers must book places for the breakfast club before the end of the previous school day. Places may be booked up to a term in advance. Parents/carers must give at least half a terms notice when giving up a regular place. Fees are charged at the time of booking and are non-refundable. In the event of a child’s absence through illness or emergency, the payment may be used for a future session. Written confirmation of dates is available on request at the time of booking.
In the event that the club is fully booked, families can put their names on a waiting list and will be contacted when an appropriate place becomes available.

Attendance at Breakfast Club costs £3.50 per session, including breakfast and childcare and escorting to school. Payment is to be made to the school office at the time of booking. Families with an entitlement to free school dinners should speak to the Head about Breakfast Club fees.

At the time of initial booking, Parents/Carers will need to complete a booking form containing contact details, dietary information and any medical needs.

Our Aim - We aim to provide high quality childcare in a happy, relaxed and safe environment for children from 3—12. A variety of activities will be offered at each session which will be planned and delivered by the well trained and dedicated staff. We aim to include both parents and children in the decision making for the club.

About Our Club - The club will be run and staffed by Melbourn Playgroup. We are starting the club at the same time as our move to our new site in the Primary School and it will be housed in the preschool room.

Melbourn Playgroup is a community charity which is run by a parent-led Management Committee which allows parents to have a say in everything that happens at the club.

We aim to keep all our staff trained in Child Protection and First Aid as well as a variety of other qualifications to ensure that the Club is run to as high a standard as possible.

We aim to maintain a high level of staff at the club and will stick to a ratio of 1:8, even when dealing with the older children. For security there will always be a minimum of 2 members of staff working each session, no matter how many children are present. We expect that sessions will not be open to many more than 20 children at a time.

Like the Preschool, the after school club will be subject to Ofsted inspection and we are currently members of the Out of School Alliance.

General Information
Opening Hours
Club starts each day at 3:30pm
Club closes at 6:00pm

Children may attend from 3:30pm and leave at any time suitable to their parents as long as they are collected no later than 6:00pm. However, we ask that payment fits the following pattern :
3:30pm - 5:00pm £5.25
3:30pm - 5:30pm £7:00
3:30pm - 6:00pm £8:75

A fee of £5 for each child will be charged when your child is registered with the club.

Casual and emergency bookings will be taken by the club as long as there are spaces in a session. However, we will only take these bookings if the child is already registered with the club and the registration fee has been paid.

We will charge a premium for casual and emergency bookings of an extra 50p per session.

We do not offer a reduction for more than one child as we consider that the fees for the club are already competitive.

We will charge the set fee even if a child is absent as this ensures that you keep your child’s registered place.

We accept childcare vouchers from most sources.

You should contact HM Revenue and Customs to see if you are eligible for any tax credits.

Bookings - We will issue booking forms at regular intervals which should allow flexible attendance. However, we will give preference to regular bookings at the club’s discretion.

Booking Form

We ask that bills are paid in advance as far as possible and reserve the right to cancel bookings where debts remain unpaid. The club will pursue all unpaid debts as far as necessary.

Policies - We share policies with the Preschool and these are available to be read on the website www.melbournplaygroup.org.uk or as a printed copy. We update these policies as often as necessary and review them with parents once a year.

Activities - We aim to provide an enjoyable environment for your children which is not merely an extension of the school day but a time to relax and have fun with friends. To achieve this we aim to offer a variety of activities which can be accessed freely by all the children. These include :

Arts and crafts
Model making
Ball games
Cooking
Wii games
Dressing up
Puzzles
Board games
Construction
DVDs
Books
Computer

We will celebrate a number of special occasions with crafts, cooking and even the occasional party. Parents, or even grandparents are more than welcome to come and spend a session with us at any time to see what we do each day.

Snacks - We will offer a variety of healthy snacks to all the children. This will involve things like fruit, breadsticks, toast, noodles. Special dietary requirements will be catered for as far as possible.

Collection by Staff - Key Stage 1 children will be escorted to the club either by club staff or by school staff. Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 children (from MVC) will be expected to make their own way. These arrangements must be clearly agreed with children and parents before their first session at the club.

The same rules will apply to children who attend other after school clubs before coming to us. In this event, the daily fees would be due as we would be responsible for your child whilst they attend the activity, and we would act “in loco parentis” if they should have an illness or injury. Also if the activity is cancelled due to bad weather or other reasons, we would care for your child from 3:30pm.

Late Collection of children - We accept that there will be occasions when you are inadvertently held up. We expect to be advised by telephone if there is to be a long delay. However, if a parent is regularly late, we reserve the right to charge the maximum fee. If the parent is later than the agreed 6pm collection time, this will incur an extra charge, to reimburse staff for their time. Parents will also understand that it is very upsetting for a child to be left waiting when all other children have been collected.

Behaviour - We aim to create a relaxed and safe environment for all children at our club. This means that everyone must be prepared to follow common rules of behaviour and show respect for all other people, the building and the resources used.

Anyone, child or adult, who fails to follow these rules will be called to account. If it is not possible to resolve any difficulties for the benefit of all, then that person will be asked to leave. We are happy to work with parents and children to find solutions but reserve the right to remove sessions if no other course of action is acceptable. We ask that you discuss this with your child before they start the club.
